Hello Grade 2 students (and parents)!
WELCOME TO YOUR FIRST WEEK OF HOMEWORK! Just like I said in class, you must choose 1 of the homework tasks below and complete it before next Monday. If you’d like to, you can complete 2, 3, or maybe even all 4 of the tasks… BUT you only NEED to do 1!
Language Arts: Film yourself reading a book to your sibling or parent on Flipgrid (press “join with Google”. You must use your OJCS account to sign in). After reading, answer the following questions (either in your Flipgrid video OR comment on this blog post).
Who is your favourite character in the book? Why?
Was there anything you didn’t like about the book?
Math: On Jamboard, draw a growing pattern (pretend you have the cubes from the classroom). Type out the pattern rule. Don’t forget to share your work with Morah Lianna (blue button in the top corner)!
Science: Research your favourite animal and share 3 interesting facts about that animal by commenting on this blog post. You can use books or websites. Here are 2 websites to get you started:

Social Studies: Interview your parent about their favourite celebration. Ask them the following questions and write their answers by commenting on this blog post.

What is the purpose/meaning of the celebration?
Are there any special traditions for this celebration?
This week we are focusing on (re)learning how to access all of these online platforms and apps! The only login information you will need for this week is your OJCS Google Account. The username (OJCS email) and password are the same from last year. Please reach out to Morah Lianna if you need ANY assistance!
*I encourage you to complete your work virtually. However, if it is too challenging in your home to do paperless homework, you can access this homework doc and print the required page(s).

I hope you had a lovely weekend and enjoyed the amazing weather! Cooper and I had a blast playing outside in the sunshine!
This is NO HOMEWORK this week. With the short week, preparations for Innovation Day, and preparations for Passover, I have decided to pause homework for this week. We will relaunch upon our return on April 5th. If you or your child would like to do some General Studies homework this week, please feel free to visit past homework tasks that he/she did not complete.
*Reminder: This Wednesday is our Innovation Day Presentation. Please join us on Google Meet for a Kahoot! Game as well we project presentations!

You are invited to join us virtually to see your child’s project and participate in a jaw dropping game of Are You Smarter Than a Grade 2 Scientist!?
*In order to play, I recommend having a second device (for example, being in the google meet on a laptop and having your mobile phone to join the game). You can plan ahead by downloading the Kahoot! app or you can simply join us through your internet browser on the day of the game.

We are trying another week of paperless homework! Below you will find the 4 choices. As usual, the students should choose one of the options below. Completing extra tasks is a bonus!
Math – IXL
Science – Go on a Simple Machines scavenger hunt in your house! Share your findings on Flipgrid.
Language Arts – Create a Google Doc and write about your favourite hobby. You may want to use this graphic organizer to gather your ideas first. Make sure you share the Google Doc with me!
Social Studies – As the warm weather approaches, Cooper is looking for a new backyard to play in! Please use Jamboard to draw a map of your backyard so he can decide which play area he likes best! Don’t forget to include your legend and share your Jamboard with Morah Lianna!
PARENTS: As we enter our third week of paperless homework, I kindly ask that you complete this parent survey. It is 3 short questions about homework, so it should not take up too much time.

Math – Clear some assigned skills on IXL
Language Arts – Do an Accelerated Reader quiz on a book you have finished reading. Here is the tutorial if you forget how to access that. Please e-mail Morah Lianna if you forget your password.
Social Studies – Watch this video about the continents (you can stop the video at 3:11). Open a Google Doc and share 3 facts you learned in this vido. Don’t forget to share your doc with Morah Lianna!

If your child is going to be absent (and participating online in the hyflex program) you MUST e-mail the teachers and Ellie to let us know. We will not be opening our Google Meet classrooms unless we know there is a student at home for the day.

Hi Grade 2 Families!
I hope you had an amazing weekend filled with Chanukah celebrations! As it is still Chanukah, your evenings may be filled with deep frying, candle lighting and dreidle spinning – so there is no official General Studies homework. Your child can always use the General Studies Choice Board or the Trilingual Choice Board if they are missing homework time this week! Both choice boards can be found on the distance learning page of our blog.
Here are some other reminders to get you through this week:
-Tuesday at 7:00pm we will have a virtual OJCS Family Hanukkah Celebration. We hope you can join us via this live stream link.
-Friday is a dress down day! We are raising money for Sit With Me Dog Rescue. This is a special dress down day because it’s a PJ day and we will be having a pancake party in Kitah Bet during the 1st period. Please send some fruit for your child to have with it.
