Hello Grade 2 Students and Families!
I am so excited to launch our last big project of the year… PASSION PROJECTS!!
As discussed in class this morning, each student will be working on a Passion Project. The students were able to choose if they wanted to work independently or with a partner from their class. This project can be on any topic and presented in any way. The possibilities are ENDLESS!!
Some topic examples:
– Animals
– Favourite Book / Author
– Research on a City or Province
– Role Model / Someone you admire
– Family Tree
– Creating your own community
– Creating tutorial videos
– Writing a story / comic book
Some presentation styles:
– Google Slides
– Oral Presentation
– Video
– Blog Post
– Art gallery
In preparation for this project, we have complete two research workshops with Miss Brigitte this month. The first one was on using keywords when doing research and the second was on taking notes in your own words. You can go back to these blog posts to review what we learned with Miss Brigitte. Here is the link for Kiddle to help you get started with your research!
Each student will also have their own Classkick assignment called “Passion Projects”. This is where they will be gathering their ideas and submitting their work for “check-in with Morah Lianna”. Since this is a very personalized project, I will give more guidance and instructions as each students develops their project ideas.
*Please note that this is an ongoing project and should NOT be completed in one day!! A formal due date for presentations will be determined after today’s brainstorming/planning period. If we pivot back to in-person learning, this project will be worked on in class.
Welcome Back Kitah Bet Families!
We hope you had a lovely break. We are back to our regularly scheduled General Studies “Choose Your Own Adventure” Homework! Below you will find the 4 choices. As usual, the students should choose one of the options below. Completing extra tasks is a bonus!
Language Arts – Prefix/Suffix detective: while doing your nightly English reading, look for new prefixes, base words, and suffixes. Add them to our class Jamboard.
Science – Go on a Simple Machines scavenger hunt in your house! Share your findings on Flipgrid.
Social Studies – Read this page about Tropical Climates and share some facts that you learned on Flipgrid.

Hello Kitah Bet Families!
Thank you so much for joining us virtually yesterday. The students were so excited to share their projects with you… and of course play Kahoot against you!
Here are the videos of the class presentations.
Chag Pesach Semeach and have a wonderful break!
Hello Kitah Bet Families,
I hope you had a lovely weekend and enjoyed the amazing weather! Cooper and I had a blast playing outside in the sunshine!
This is NO HOMEWORK this week. With the short week, preparations for Innovation Day, and preparations for Passover, I have decided to pause homework for this week. We will relaunch upon our return on April 5th. If you or your child would like to do some General Studies homework this week, please feel free to visit past homework tasks that he/she did not complete.
*Reminder: This Wednesday is our Innovation Day Presentation. Please join us on Google Meet for a Kahoot! Game as well we project presentations!
SCHEDULE – Wednesday, March 24th
2B – Google Meet at 2:00
2A – Google Meet at 2:45
We are one week away from Innovation Day! Here are some important notes…
You are invited to join us virtually to see your child’s project and participate in a jaw dropping game of Are You Smarter Than a Grade 2 Scientist!?
*In order to play, I recommend having a second device (for example, being in the google meet on a laptop and having your mobile phone to join the game). You can plan ahead by downloading the Kahoot! app or you can simply join us through your internet browser on the day of the game.
SCHEDULE – Wednesday, March 24th
2B – Google Meet at 2:00
2A – Google Meet at 2:45
PLEASE CONTINUE SENDING IN TOILET PAPER/PAPER TOWEL ROLLS (AND ANY OTHER CARDBOARD YOU MAY HAVE IN YOUR RECYCLING BIN!)
Hello Kitah Bet Families
I encourage you to read this entire post as we have a few reminders for you at the bottom!
We are trying another week of paperless homework! Below you will find the 4 choices. As usual, the students should choose one of the options below. Completing extra tasks is a bonus!
Math – IXL
Science – Go on a Simple Machines scavenger hunt in your house! Share your findings on Flipgrid.
Language Arts – Create a Google Doc and write about your favourite hobby. You may want to use this graphic organizer to gather your ideas first. Make sure you share the Google Doc with me!
Social Studies – As the warm weather approaches, Cooper is looking for a new backyard to play in! Please use Jamboard to draw a map of your backyard so he can decide which play area he likes best! Don’t forget to include your legend and share your Jamboard with Morah Lianna!
PARENTS: As we enter our third week of paperless homework, I kindly ask that you complete this parent survey. It is 3 short questions about homework, so it should not take up too much time.
Reminders
Today we had a guest speaker (virtually) visit our classroom! Dr. Cassandra Marion, the Science Advisor at The Aviation and Space Museum , shared an interactive presentation all about the Mars Perseverance Rover!
We learned about the purpose of this mission, how Perseverance (the rover) landed on Mars, we saw pictures and videos, and asked A LOT OF QUESTIONS!
Some fun facts that we learned are…
-Mars is very dusty and very cold!
-People working in Mission Control switched to Mars Time for the first 3 months of the mission. (That is a 39 hour long day, instead of 24 hours!)
-The Perseverance Rover dropped a helicopter on Mars to see if we can fly on Mars
Dr. Cassandra shared this video with us so we can see what Mars looks like up close!
If you want to explore Mars on your own, you can check it out here! Each child is also taking home a Perseverance colouring page with a few fun facts about the Perseverance Rover!
I would like to give a big thank you to Dr. Cassandra Marion for volunteering her time to come visit our class today and a very special shout out to Howard Fremeth, a Kitah Bet parent, for connecting me with Dr. Cassandra and setting this presentation up!
