Hebrew Homework Nov. 9

Shavua tov!

For homework this week and next we will continue learning the Ashrei prayer.

1) When we practise Ashrei, we are practising our Hebrew reading!

2) We are learning that we know many words that are “hidden” inside bigger words.

(like  וּגְדוּלָּתְךָ comes from the word גָדוֹל)

3) We are learning that Ashrei is a really long prayer.

Homework sheet is found in your child’s blue Hebrew homework folder.

Hebrew Homework Oct. 26 – Nov. 2

Shavua Tov! This is an exciting week in kitah bet. We will begin learning parashat Lech Lecha. This is OUR parasha, meaning, this is the Torah portion that we will be learning in detail this year. During the next month we will learn why Avram and Sarai left their family, home, country and went to the land that God would show them.

In our Ivrit classes, we are continuously reviewing and building our vocabulary. This week for homework we will review “family” vocab. This will be done via Classkick. We would like all students to be familiar with this app in the event that they participate in online learning at any point.

Click this link for 2A and this link for 2B to log into Classkick. You DO NOT need a class code or name, simply scroll down and click “LOG IN” and then enter students’ school email address (firstname.lastname@theojcs.ca) and password, (shalomOJCS2). Once you’ve logged in from a device once, subsequent visits to Classkick will allow you to quickly enter the site through Google without entering email and password.

Once they are in Classkick, there are four slides to complete for Homework: October 26. This is a good time to check out Classkick and see how it works. Slides should be completed by next Monday, Nov. 2.

Have a great week and please reach out if you have any questions.

Getting Ready for Rosh Hashanah

In kitah bet we are getting ready for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Last week we read a story called, “Why do we blow the shofar in the Hebrew month of Elul?” We learned that the shofar is telling us to: “WAKE UP! A NEW YEAR IS COMING AND WE HAVE TO GET READY!”

Bolded are the words we are learning in Hebrew.

What items do we need to get ready?

תַפּוּחִים בִּדְבַשׁApples and honey for a sweet new year. (tapuchim b’dvash)

רִימוֹנִים – Pomegranates to represent all the mitzvot we will do this year. (rimonim)

חָלוֹת עַגוּלוֹת – Round Challah so that we will have a good year all year round. (challot agulot)

מַחֲזוֹר – Special prayer book to read the prayers just for the High Holidays. (machzor)

כַּרְטִיסֵי בְּרָכָה – Rosh Hashanah greeting cards to wish others a Shana Tova. (kartees bracha)

What else can we do to get ready for Rosh Hashanah?

תְּשׁוּבָה – We reflect on our year and think if there’s anything we can do better or change next year. (teshuvah)

סְלִיחָה – We say sorry to anyone we may have wronged. (selicha)

מִצְווֹת – We can do lots of good deeds to prepare for the new year. (mitzvot)
